Petticoats at 35 Degrees: Our Weekend at Rockabilly Days 2026

There are certain weekends in the year that you look forward to from spring onwards. The Rockabilly Days in Asperg are one of them. From July 31st to August 2nd, we were there again with our stand; we've been participating every year since 2019.

A Festival with History

It all started in 2017. Four friends had an idea, implemented it, and what began small in Freiberg am Neckar has grown over the years into one of the largest Rockabilly gatherings in the Stuttgart region. Since 2024, the festival has taken place in Asperg, and admission has remained free to this day. For an event of this size, that's truly rare nowadays.

Next year marks the anniversary. And let me tell you this much: We definitely want to be there when the celebrations happen.

Thursday: Setup

Our weekend starts a day earlier than the festival. On Thursday, we set up, because eight by four meters of booth space need to be filled. Seven clothing racks with Marlene trousers, jeans, blouses, shirts, skirts, dresses, and petticoats. At festivals like this, petticoats, along with skirts and dresses, sell particularly well, so we had plenty of them. Plus, four changing rooms, because we know from experience that they are needed.

Our spot is the same every year, and it's a dream: right in the middle of the action, with a direct view of the stage. And, almost as important for us, with a power connection. That sounds unspectacular, but it makes all the difference in the evening. When the sun goes down and the booth is lit up, the merchandise just looks different.

After setting up, we went home again before staying on-site for two nights for the actual festival days.

The Heat and the Petticoats

Anyone who has ever stood at an open-air festival in midsummer knows what's coming. It was hot. Really hot. To be honest, we expected that people would have little desire to stand in a changing room and try on clothes in these temperatures.

Wrong. The rush was enormous despite the heat. There were times when all four changing rooms were occupied simultaneously, and someone else was waiting outside. The desire to try on clothes was unbroken, and that genuinely surprised and pleased us.

The best part was what came next: many customers didn't even want their new dress to be packed, but put it on directly and continued across the grounds. That's exactly what you do it for.

The strongest rush was on Friday evening and Saturday. It was really one after another.

People who support you

A weekend like this thrives on encounters. We had countless pleasant conversations, with regular customers whom we've known for years and who make a special trip to see us, and with many new faces.

What particularly touched us was this: There were customers who simply showed up at the booth with a coffee or a slice of pizza because they saw that we hadn't been able to leave for hours. You don't forget these small gestures.

Because it didn't all go smoothly. Due to illness, one of our team members dropped out, so Steffi was alone at the booth for a while, with full operations and four occupied changing rooms. That was challenging. Luckily, Bianca stepped in at short notice and helped out, for which we extend a big thank you here again. For next year, we still plan to build in more buffer for staffing.

Our neighboring booth was also a stroke of luck: Miranda's Choice was next to us, and their assortments complemented each other wonderfully instead of competing. We wish it could always be like that.

Around the Festival

Besides selling, there's always a moment in between to enjoy the festival itself. And Asperg had a lot to offer: an impressive number of classic cars that were on display on the grounds and at the Car Show, a full lineup on stage, and various food trucks that provided catering.

The infrastructure was also good. The on-site toilet trailer was consistently very clean, security was present, and the organizing team was extremely friendly and approachable. For vendors, this is not a given. You can tell that there are people behind the festival who are genuinely passionate about it.

Conclusion

Three days, intense heat, full changing rooms, many new faces, and a few dresses that danced across the festival grounds that very evening. The Rockabilly Days were once again the highlight of our market year in 2026.

Next year the festival celebrates its anniversary. We are determined to be there again, hopefully with a little less heat and with a team that remains complete.
